I am an adolescent and I am getting the surgery in six months! Because they now have a program for kids my age that qualify to get the surgery and are approved by the FDA. This video really got me excited for the whole thing and I am willing to do all the work the doctors are setting me up on to get like these people! :-)

@ jmeree: please do research on WLS (weight loss surgery) Any WL surgeon will tell U if U’re not willing 2do the work (diet & exercise, mental attitude) then surgery will NOT work 4U, period! I can’t stress that enuf. It’s 1st thing surgeon will discuss w/potential patient cuz like u most ppl go see a WL surgeon thinking “you don’t work hard to diet, all you do is lay down and the surgery does all the rest because all you can eat is a couple of spoonfuls.” That is sooo far from the truth.

@ jmeree PLEASE do a little research on Weight Loss Surgery (WLS) B4 posting (not 2B mean but) such an uninformed comment. As any WL surgeon & patient will tell you this surgery is a tool, NOT a quick fix, WLS people have 2 work very hard 4 their WL success, WLS is only part of it, like 30%. The other 70% is ALL the work that person’s willing to put into it, eating the right foods, exercise, etc. As with any WL tool if you’re not willing to do the work, IT SIMPLY WILL NOT WORK 4U, period!

Got an appointment with my Dr on July 6 …it marks the journey of hopefully getting the lap band… I am praying to god that I can get this procedure.. I have a daughter to look after and I want to be able to play with her outside without feeling tired after 5 minutes.

I know this surgery is life changing and for health reasons its good but how did you get so big to begin with? You are still the fat person inside because you did not work hard to diet all you did was lay down and the surgery did all the rest because all you can eat is a couple spoon fools

I just had my done 2 1/2 months ago and I have lost 60 lbs. I was also scared and afraid. But let me tell ya something it was WORTH it. I can’t begin to tell you how happy I am.

@vlo1125 Incorrect, the 5 year success rate for gastric bypass is around 93% for obese paitients and 57% among super-morbidly obese patients.

The 5 year success rate for normal weight loss among supermorbidly obese patients is sadly less than 5%. Yes, it can be done naturally, but their chances of succeeding are very low. Even among the obese the sucess rate is less than half that of weight loss surgery.

Neither option is easy. Well done on your loss though.I hope you maintain it.

ugh, this is so wrong. die,t excercise and you’ll lose weight, i hate how everyone thinks its just as easy as getting a portion of your stomach cut out, more than half of these people will gain all that weight back and have a shorter life expectancy. not worth it. this coming from someone who has struggled with weight her whole life, ive gone from 260lbs to 150 with out surgery and alot of these people looked like they werent much bigger than that. you can do it on your own!

  9. CassandraStuart

did these people have reconstructive surgery also ?!

My advice is simple, but it works. Surgery is not the best answer.

You don’t need surgery. I’ve lost about 45 pounds since January on diet alone. All it takes is planning, persistence, and patience.

Plan out what you’ll eat every day. You don’t have to be a health nut, just eat more fruits and vegetables, and eat less bad things, like ice cream or cookies.

After you have a plan, stick with it. Remember, this is a lifestyle change.

And be patient. You didn’t gain weight overnight and you won’t lose it overnight.

@redneck500 Talk to your insurance company. My former employer’s insurance company wouldn’t cover it under any circumstances, but my insurance as a federal employee does cover it based on BMI and co-morbidities. If your insurance company won’t cover it, start talking to some surgeons in your area — many will finance your surgery costs.

i need dat helppppppp!!!! sum1 let me know…plizzz

  21. redneck500

I heard that the insurance companies won’t do this surgery unless you are desperately desperately in need of it for an immediate life or death situation. So my question is how are all of these people getting it? I weight over 500 lbs and they wont even let me get it , and these people are skinny compared to me!! Anyone know?

  22. celinejen

Such an inspiration to all. I’m on almost year band-aniversery. I was 220 pounds and now I’m about 117 pounds. It’s hard work, but well worth it. I wouldn’t change a thing, my only regret was I didn’t have it sooner.
